Everything we do is connected in one way or another to our heart. When we walk or run or play soccer it exercises our hearts in a physical way! When we think and meditate and sing songs throughout our day it exercises our hearts in a spiritual way! Whatever we may be thinking about or meditating on or singing about during our day not only shows where we are spiritually but leads us on in that way!!!
So often the tongue is accused of sin, and people even get angry with that little member and wish to be rid of it! But what good does that do? It is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks! Get rid of your tongue, the attitude and thought remains!
As one preacher said, "The tongue is the dipstick to your heart!" It reveals to ourselves and others what we are thinking or who we really are!
Why is it that we poor dear humans think that as long as it isn't heard or seen by others there will be no lasting consequences? Why is it that we think that if we keep all our badness to ourselves or only let it be seen where others are just as bad as us that we will not have to give any account for it?
God sees our hearts, He knows our motives and He will judge us accordingly! 1 Samuel 16:7b "for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
Jeremiah 17:9,10 "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings."
We might easily think, "Oh, He tries the reins like a horse rider might try the reins of the horse to see if we will stop if He tells us to or go when He wants us to!" But from some study on the word in its context and according to Strong's it actually is talking about the mind! He tries the mind!
Psalm 26:2 "Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart."
There is no secret that God does not know all about. From the original intent, through the process of thought, to the very end of the whole thing, whatever the secret may be! Whether it is a bitterness toward another. Rebellion against authority or directly against God. Whatever it may be God knows all about it!
Romans 2:16 "In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ..." You will not be able to hide anything!
You cannot hide from God tho’ mountains cover you,
His eye our secret thoughts behold;
His mercies all our lives enfold,
He knows our purposes untold,
You cannot hide from God.
You cannot hide from God no matter what you do.
He meets you at life’s every turn,
He knows your thoughts that blight and burn,
He knows when you His warnings spurn,
You cannot hide from God.
You cannot hide from God, but one thing you can do:
If you would save your sinful soul,
If you would be made pure and whole,
If you would reach the higher goal,
Your soul must hide in God.
You cannot hide from God!~ Alfred H. Ackley
You cannot hide from God!
Wherever you go,
Whatever you do,
You cannot hide from God
His eye is fixed on you!
You cannot hide from God!
So many people I have spoken to or have listened to as they speak like to say, "Don't judge me! You don't know my heart!" And they use it as an excuse to do what they want to do!
They seem to be trying to say that their intentions are good so what they are doing is right! Or else they are saying that the end justifies the means! "It doesn't matter how much wrong is done as long as the goal in the end is something good and right!
They love to say, "God knows my heart! So don't judge me!" "Don't put me on a guilt trip for trying to do what is right in my own way and in my own strength! True, it isn't all 100% pleasing to God but, hey!!!"
Yes, I agree! God knows the heart! And all we have to do is look again at that passage we love to use so much to justify our ways! "Man sees the outside, but God sees the heart."
Samuel had to anoint a new king. God had rejected Saul because of his rebellion and stubbornness in obeying God's command. He had disobeyed and, after blaming it on the people, said, that they had saved the best of the sheep and oxen to do sacrifice to the LORD!
1 Samuel 15:22,23 "And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king."
There are more than just Saul who are guilty of that same sin! Matthew 15:8 "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."
Samuel saw these young men, sons of Jesse, and thought when he saw the first one, "Surely the Lord's anointed is before him." BUT the LORD said unto Samuel, "Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
God had chosen David, "a man after God's own heart!" A man who although he made mistakes wanted to please the Lord and who meditated on and delighted in the law of the Lord!
Even children do not escape the ever-watchful eye of the Lord. Proverbs 20:11 "Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right." If a child is known by his doings whether it be pure and right, how much more are those who are older and more responsible known by their doings?
From birth your heart is in rebellion against God. You cannot please God in your own strength. You cannot be cleansed by saying you are sorry and going on in the same way you have been going!
Isaiah 55:7 "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."
Acts 3:19 "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out..."
2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." This is repentance!

Our God measures man by a standard divine, For He sees underneath ev’ry outward design. He looks past possessions and costly attire; He studies the heart – ev’ry thought and desire.
Our God does not judge by how tall we may stand, Or how much we possess, or the rank we command. His gaze goes far deeper to things that endure; He honors the man who keeps his heart pure.
For the eyes of the Lord are searching to and fro. We have no secrets that our God does not know. Our father knows our thoughts; He understands ev’ry part. Man sees the outside, but God sees the heart.

The Psalmist said in Psalm 119:113-120 "I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love. Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God. Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope. Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually. Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood. Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies. My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments."
Hebrews 10:31 "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God"
Searching your own heart, seeking to know where you stand before Almighty God. Seeking His face so you can learn what He thinks of you and what you are doing... the life you are living. Does it meet His approval? Or do you still encourage yourself by thinking, "God understands! He knows I mean well and all is well that ends well!"
All is well that ends well as long as it is done in obedience to the word of the Lord. It is His choice and right to say, "Well done!" What good is it to say of ourselves, "I have done well!" when He says, It is iniquity! You have done it your own way, not mine!
What we do well in our eyes will only meet His eternal wrath!
Isaiah 64:6,7 "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities."
